Vermillion Empty Vermillion

About 2 years ago I started to outline a campaign setting of my own that incorporated some elements of comic book heroes and mutant villains. I am going back to that to rework the set up and the elements to it. To help in this I actually plan on asking everyone that is part of the gaming group to design a city to be in this world. Given it will be more modern, this opens up a lot. Like any other setting-from-scratch, you start in one place and build outwards from that location. Also by the members designing their own city, within the campaign when the group comes to that city, that player can take over as DM so that every is getting chances to play and no singular person has to worry about keeping things on track. Of course some segments will be spent in locations longer than others depending on what's happening. So the more thought put into your city's design, the more everyone can get out of it.

The World is called Vermillion.

The main hub is Veridian City. This isn't just a capital of one area, but the capital of the planet. A city-state unto itself. Population of 1 billion with hundreds of different wards and ethnic centers. This is where I'm thinking to start a lot of the work.

Races: What the different ones are based on will be in parenthises.
Altarim, Vermillion's fifth oldest race. (Humans)
Elysians, or People of Ely, and Vermillion's third race (Gaurdinals/Leonals)
Pratori, or "Prissy" as the Lugara call them. Vermillion's fourth oldest race. (Elves)
Lugara, or "Loogey" as the Pratori call them. Vermillion's sixth oldest race. (Orcs)
Kalkath, Vermillion's youngest race. (Half-lings)
Hylo, there isn't any documentation of where the Hylo came from, even among Ra-zar (Yuan-ti)
To-kar, Vermillion's second oldest race. (half-ogres)
Ra-zar, Vermillion's oldest documented race. (half-giants)

This is a world without any form of magic so classes that require such won't really work unless someone comes up with a way to play it off. Clerics would still be part of it but they'd be more doctors and medics than anything divinely powered. I had a thought to get ahold of a d20 Modern book but it will be a while before I have the funds to access that luxury. Until then I fully believe that this can work with the 3.5 books and some alterations. Perhaps even elements from the World of Darkness series. Now wouldn't that be something? Combine class building from D&D with the story-telling elements of White Wolf? Even some of the gunman classes from KoTOR and SW would be usable. I fully understand there is a lot of work to be done and the Hobbit will more than likely finish his own campaign stuff before mine is done lol.

More to come later.

Within Veridian City there are 2 kinds of citizens. On one side is the Natori, those born of pure blood-lines without any sort of genetic modification or grafts. These are generally seen as inferior by their counterparts because they choose to rely completely on whatever abilities they are born with, but the Natori believe themselves to be the true people of Vermillion.

"We existed this way for a million years and we are all still here upon this world. History has shown we're strong enough to survive everything the world has to offer." - Holt Hinator, leader of the Natori.

The other group are the Protacons. This group believes that self-augmentation is the key to achieving racial perfection. Many of their members recieved grafts and gene splices from their parents at birth and have continued to indulge in the practice through adulthood.

"There cannot be hatred or war if everyone is their own kind of perfect." - Avayu Prota, founder of the Protacons

There is rumor of a third group that believes there can be compomise between both but there isn't any proof as of yet since such a stance would be viewed as near blasphemy.

Due to Veridian City's size, or even because of it, the day to day operations are not run by elected officials but a series of familial castes. Each Prominant family is placed in charge of key functions needed and the head of each family meets daily to discuss required operations with the other heads of Veridian. The heads of each family report to the Veridian Royal family who are tasked with regulating the city's treasury, military endeavors, and diplomatic relations with the rest of Vermillion.

The Royal Caste:
Raika Katagar(Pratori) - Queen, currently bed-ridden.
Kitaro Katagar(Altarim)- King, Deceased.
Xai Katagar(Altarim/Pratori)- Oldest son, Deceased
Bly Katagar(Altarim/Pratori) 2nd son, Deceased.
Kitaro Katagar II(Altarim/Pratori) youngest son
Gao Krissas(Altarim/Leonal)- Regent of Veridian, only son of Kitaro Katagar born out of wedlock.
Versala Krissas(Leonal/Pratori) - Wife of Gao
Valer Krissas (Leonal/Pratori)- Eldest heir and head of the military.
Saito Krissas(Leonal/Pratori)- Middle son and head diplomat
Suzaka Krissas (Leonal/Pratori) - First Princess in 3 generations and an outspoken Protacon sympathizer.

City Watch/Guard Caste:
Umake Vinta(Pratori)- Family Head
Tota Vinta(Pratori) - Umake's wife and Caste Commander
Kivo Imam(Elysian) - Elysian Ward Commander
Umi Vinta-Imam(Pratori) - Harbor Watch Commander, Kivo's wife. Daughter of Umake and Tota.
Holg Vas-goganan(Altarim/Lugara) - Lugara District Watch Commander, adopted son of Umake.
Spasi Vinta(Pratori) - Pratori Ward Commander,Deceased. Son of Umake and Tota.
Bola Gilganosh (To-kar)- To-kar Commander.
Ulk Vodashtath (Ra-zar) Ra-zar Liason

Each Ward polices itself and the enforcers with advanced rank are chosen by the Ward Commander with final decisions made by Family head. Those living in Veridian who wish to join the Enforcers register with the Enforcers Academy.
