Instant kill roll
Ok well I think it is just time to set this in stone. Two 20's in a roll is an instant kill by optional rules in the DMG. Now should we have that in effect for both monsters and players considering how often this happens. But then again I can just see race getting felled by a Kobold with a pointy stick.
One thing we made in another campaign was that two 20's makes an instant kill on monsters, and it takes three in a row to take down a player. The problem with that is the odds of that happening, you might as well say that players can't be killed by this method. Which takes away some of the danger and suspense out of combat.

Re: Instant kill roll
What about adding a Percentage roll for PC's? Player rolls high enough their character survives what would normally be an instant kill. Call it force of will, fighting spirit, take your inspirational pick. Going Super Saiyan.

Re: Instant kill roll
You mean the stabilization roll, that is what that is pretty much. Not a bad suggestion
Re: Instant kill roll
Just have to decide what percentage. Normal stabilization is under 15 over 95. What would this be? under 10 over 90?

Re: Instant kill roll
Not the Stableize roll to prevent Instant Death but rather a type of roll to save that has
bonuses and/or Negatives applied based on the Situation and Training. Where if Successful you
may be taken to 1HP instead, or to 0HP where you have to start rolling to Stableize.
eg.A Rogue Sneaks up behind a Fighter and Rolls the Double 20 the Fighter may roll a Fort save
to go to 1 or 0 HP instead of Dead. I say Fort for a Fighter because he uses more mussel than
Brains or moves, Where as a Rogue would use Reflex and a Wizard would use his wits, and so
on......
anyways it is just a thought.

Did you learn nothing from watching The Gamers? A fighter with a high intelligence can be more lethal than a monk!
